A Designated Pilot Examiner is an individual authorized by the FAA to conduct specific pilot practical tests, commonly called checkrides. Each examiner's FAA authorizations determine which certificates, ratings, and aircraft categories they may test.

How do I find a DPE near me?

Enter a city, airport name, or ZIP code, choose a search radius, and select the certificate or rating and aircraft you need. The finder calculates distance from available ZIP data and shows the closest matching FAA records first.

Does a search result guarantee that the DPE can give my checkride?

No. Confirm the exact practical test authorization, availability, fee, aircraft requirements, and required documents directly with the examiner before scheduling.

Can I search for an initial CFI examiner?

Yes. Select Flight instructor, choose the aircraft, and check Initial CFI rating. The results will only include FAA records with an applicable initial flight instructor test authorization.

How current is the DPE information?

Pilot Training Tracker imports public FAA DPE records weekly and displays the latest import date on this page. Examiner availability and contact details can change between imports, so always verify directly.

What should I confirm before scheduling a checkride?

Confirm that the examiner holds the exact authorization for your practical test and aircraft. Also ask about availability, fees, payment policy, required documents, aircraft documents, and any retest policy.

Can I search by airport name instead of a ZIP code?

Yes. Enter an airport name, airport identifier, city, address, or ZIP code. The finder resolves the location and searches for matching DPE records within your selected radius.

Can I browse DPEs by state?

Yes. Choose Browse by state and select a state to see matching FAA examiner records without entering a ZIP code or calculating a distance.

Can I search for a DPE by name?

Yes. Choose Find by name, enter part of the examiner's first or last name, and optionally select a state to narrow the results.
